Finn Fest Looking for Volunteers
FinnFest runs a booth at each festival. The booth provides the following:
- Sales table: “Official” logo T-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, the hymnbook, et al
- Space for writers: they sign up for an hour during which they can sit and talk and with tori festivals. They can sell their books and keep their own records of sales.
- Place to ask for information or to register a complaint or compliment about the festival.
Do any of you know someone who would be willing and able to organize and manage the booth? You and a friend may want to share the responsibilities. You will both get free registration.
TASKS
- On Thursday morning, July 25, unpack all the stuff and organize the space, leaving a space on one end for the writers.
- On Thursday afternoon, supervise the volunteers who will be working 2 hour slots….12- 5 PM
- Friday and Saturday, run the booth and supervise the volunteers, 9-5.
- Sunday, 9-12, July 28, run the booth and supervise final sales.
- After 12 noon, take the booth apart; pack up the remainder for movement to the FFUSA “storage locker” at Cedar&Stone.
- Throughout the festival, keep the financial records and make cash deposits.
This person is:
- Responsible
- Financial Understanding of record keeping
- Able to supervise volunteers who come and go.
This person (or two) essentially is committing to spending their days at the tori. There are people who define the festival by the tori experience only. (Mae Selvala, wife of Bob Selvala, the first FFUSA president, was one. She just loved sitting in the tori and meeting people. )
FinnFest is willing to pay an honorarium of $500 (keeping under the need for a W-9 form) for this contribution of time and leadership. We will also provide complimentary festival registration so that the person could organize the tori booth volunteers in such a way that this person could slip away to attend a session or two. For sure, this person would be able to attend all the evening dances and the Thursday/Friday evening programs.
Can you suggest someone? Are you attending the festival and know someone who might come IF they had something like this to do? Do you know someone in the Duluth area? Being Finnish American is NOT a requirement. Being someone who likes an opportunity to make a significant contribution to FinnFest is most welcome.
Send a reply through the FGGMN contact form.
Thanks,
Marianne
